Re “Lecture on ‘intelligent design’ flaw Monday”
Short form: I.D. doesn’t explain anything in any significant detail. ;)
Henry
The most significant flaw is there is no theory :D. Not in the scientific sense, at any rate.
Doh! That’s less than 90 minutes from here, but I work until about 6:30… :(
Sounds interesting…is it going to be recorded for the web?
I am not sure if there will be a taping of the event or even notes or slides. Sober’s arguments against Intelligent Design have been both fair and devastating. I am not aware of much of any effort of Dembski’s part to address Sober’s critiques. Anyone?
Elliott Sober Papers
It’d be so cool if someone did tape it or video it. I really enjoyed watching the video of Ken Miller’s talk at Case Western.

For those of in the UK there is a programme on C4 tonight at 8pm - 6th March (Dispatches) on the growing influence of American inspired evangelicals in British Schools:

Dembski has a pretty worthless response to Elliott Sober (circa 2000) here:

It’s worth a goodish drive to hear Elliot Sober. Ask him about the “theory of shirts” if he doesn’t mention it in his talk.
For those who may be interested and are within range:
University of Colorado, Boulder Conference on the History and Philosophy of Darwinian Evolutionary Theory

Scheduled speakers include Robert Pennock Betty Smocovitis Matt Young (hi Matt) Vic Stenger
still accepting paper submissions…
As school prepares to expand, ‘intelligent design’ on table
Well that’s excellent. Here we’ve been unable to find anyone who can explain the “theory” of intelligent design, and all we had to do was ask Tom Stoner.
You mean that’s not his normal condition?
Does it see a little ironic/amusing that the last two comments have referenced Tom Stoner and Elliot Sober?
I’d drive even farther to see Elliot Drunk!
