Another example of why scientists should stick to science…

I thought it was cute. Cross between Plain White T’s and CSN.

Re: moneduloides #1

Even scientists are allowed a little fun, surely?

I wonder if William Shatner is available for his own personal take on “Tiktaalik”. Might be as memorable as his sterling rendition of that great Elton John/Bernie Taupin tune “Rocket Man”.

I felt compelled to get up and dance along. Very nicely done.

…tom.…

Right. Now I can never hear “tick tick tick” again without mentally adding “tiktaaaaalik”. Maybe that’s good.

Not when it results in bleeding ears…

:)

All together now:

It’s a long way from Amphioxus, It’s a long way to us It’s a long way from Amphioxus To the merest human cuss! Good-bye, fins and gill slits Hello, teeth and hair. It’s a long, long way from Amphioxus But we all came from there!

It’s a long, long way from Amphioxus But we all came from there!

And so did our hiccups! (Well, almost - those may have originated with amphibians later on.)

OK, I’m a Penn geology grad (‘78) and I did some fieldwork on Ellesmere Island (south of Shubin’s field area, in much younger rocks) in 1985. This gives me all sorts of warm fuzzies!

On a related note: I can never get any Youtube video to completely load. It took me at least a dozen reloads to get the video to load to about 70%. Anyone have any suggestions?

This was great– thanks so much for posting it.

Cute! The music just reminded me that if it weren’t for this little critter, I wouldn’t be able to play classical guitar.

Now that tune is going to be in my head for the next few weeks and every time I see Neil Shubin’s book on my bookshelf. :-)

Until I saw this, I’d never really imagined Tiktaalik as being so cute … maybe it’s the sort of stop-action animation combined with a catchy song that does it.

On the other hand, I now know the song that’s going to be running around in my head for the next week!

And just about 400 My of evolution and we can have this - introducing the latest in the line, Tiktak:

I guess I’m forever in dept to Tiktaalik.

Admittedly a shameless plug for my favorite band, but this was about music right? BTW, the girls were then just between 18 and 19, fresh out of high school.

Well, perhaps. But it does give us a useful way of explaining what some of the creationist pseudo-science feels like to a “real” scientist.….

That was cute but I liked the “LHC” -nerd- video better.

“Anyone have any suggestions?”

Get a mac.

“Anyone have any suggestions?”

Get a mac.

Thanks a bunch. That’s real helpful.

Why does the model seem to be lacking hind limbs?

I believe the hind limbs of the fossil were poorly preserved.

Bobby, you’re not welcome here since you have violated the ‘terms of service’ of this site. Why you still insist in sharing your ignorance with us and the world is beyond me. Especially given your well established inability to support your claims.

Anyone know where I can get a model Tiktaalik like the one in the video? (I suppose there’s not likely to be much of a mass market.)

But it’s still just a fish!!!11!!eleven!

Forgive my naivete, but what is the derivation of: “11!eleven!” – ? There’s obviously a backstory there, probably along the lines of the ever-popular PYGMIES + DWARVES, but alas I must confess my ignorance. Inquiring minds would like to know. Well, at least if it doesn’t require any effort …
