Yeah, and we should name it “Don” to be accurate. After all, what is Iguanadon but a scaled-up iguana?
Wow. One of my other entries was a green iguana, only it was taken during mating season when they’re bright orange.
Thats a gorgeous fella’! I bet he gets all the babes.
Are you sure that isn’t one of the “babes”? ;)
really? the first comment on my picture is by eric hovind? really?
well, seeing that you responded to some hovind nonsense, i know what you mean. but when iguanodon was discovered, people did think of it a lot like a scaled up iguana, and many of the early illustrations portrayed it as such. even many later ones, featuring the (inaccurate) upright posture and correct thumb placement tended to make them look a lot like iguanas. curiously, i was actually thinking of one of those illustrations when i shot this.
however, the real iguanodon looked nothing like this, and was much more closely related to birds and crocodiles than lizards. but i’m starting to think more and more that creationists are still living in the 1850’s, so perhaps that explains mr. hovind’s comment.
i have a picture of an orange one somewhere too. a BIG one, too. this one was maybe 2 or 3 feet, but i saw one at school one time that was maybe 5 feet long and bright rusty orange. sadly, i didn’t bring my telephoto that day, so the shot’s not very good…
anyways, apparently the poorly-named “green” iguanas vary in color by region, too.
anyone know how to tell? i sure don’t.

Almost certainly not; that is why I removed it to the BR wall, where you may read it for yourself. PT policy precludes my simply deleting the comment.
it’s so hard to tell the difference between imitation trolls and real-life trolls. not sure there’s even an effective difference, thanks to poe’s law.
I can assure you beyond reasonable doubt that Eric Hovind would not have used the return address that this troll used - [Enable javascript to see this email address.]. “Bleeping” stands for an epithet meaning copulation.
lol! if i saw that, that would have certainly been a pretty big (and hillarious) hint, yeah…
