Aythya americana

Aythya americana – redhead, Walden Ponds, Boulder, Colorado, 2014. A stray widgeon insisted on getting into the picture. (The person with the biggest binoculars told me that they were cinnamon teals, but that does not look right. Someone with a good pattern-recognition system please correct me if necessary.)

Yes, the guy in the middle on the righthand side of the photograph is clearly a drake American Wigeon Anas americana. The duck just above the wigeon looks like a drake Gadwall Anas strepera. The red-headed drakes are indeed Redheads.

The guy told you what were cinnamon teal? The redheads or the wigeon?

And the duck above the wigeon looks like a female redhead to me.
